Dr. Sudhamaheswari S

Dr. S. Sudhamaheswari graduated from Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur and obtained her DNB from Madras ENT Research Foundation. She has been a Consultant ENT surgeon at Madras ENT Research Foundation, Mandaiveli Centre from 2008 to 2020 and a Consultant at Madras ENT Research Foundation since 2009. 

She is a teaching faculty in the MERF Institute of Speech and Hearing and was actively involved in the DNB post graduates training program of MERF.   She has special interest in the field of Genetics and has completed her doctoral research work on the “Genetics of Congenital hearing loss in South Indian population”. She is the first otolaryngologist in the country to obtain a PhD degree on hearing loss genetics. She heads the Genetics department at MERF.

She has special focus in the field of Community Otorhinolaryngology. She heads the team of doctors, audiologists and staff members who conduct regular Free ENT and hearing screening camps in various rural areas of India to screen for hearing loss and identify ENT disorders prevalent in the community. She is also in charge of the Voice and swallowing clinic at MERF.

She is the recipient of the Dr. Sandra de Souza gold medal, the AOI SOUTH ZONE GOLD MEDAL, the Senior Consultant IAOHNS gold medal and the CIGI Award. She has also received the American Academy International Visiting Scholarship award and did Observership in the ENT department at New York Presbyterian Hospital and at Loyola Medical University in Chicago. She was an Invited Faculty at the APSCI conference held in Cyprus and the “World DNA Day conference” held in Dalian, China.

She has been actively involved in organizing many national and state conferences and CME programs and workshops. She is a life member of AOI, IAOHNS, IASSA and Laryngology and voice associations.  She has co guided significant research activities at the institution and has several notable publications to her credit in National and International Journals.
