Prof. R. S. Anand Kumar

Prof. R. S. Anand Kumar is a Senior ENT consultant and Academic Director of Madras ENT Research Foundation (P) Ltd, Chennai.

He is the founder member and honorary treasurer for 15 years in the Tamil Nadu Association of Otorhinolaryngologists of India, whose headquarters are at Madras ENT Research Foundation.

He has the Distinction of being awarded the MAMS from the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons.

He is also the honorary treasurer of the Indian Academy of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

He is one of the founding member and former treasurer of the South Zone Association of Otorhinolaryngologists of India.

He is one of the founding member and former treasurer of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnea

He is one of the founding member of the Cochlear Implant Group of India 

He heads the MERF Academia department and is the course director for the post-doctoral implantation otology fellowship course conducted under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai.

He has been the Co-guide for the PhD program in Otorhinolaryngology, Audiology and Speech and Language Pathology, recognised by The Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University and has supervised three PhD scholars till date.

He was the Coordinator for the Diploma in the National Board of Examinations from 2001 to 2020 for twenty years.

He is also the coordinator for the national accreditation board for hospitals (NABH) at MERF.

He has been conferred the “BEST DOCTOR” award by Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai in the year 2012.

He has been a Senior Consultant ENT surgeon in the city of Chennai since 1981 with nearly 45 years of experience in the field.

He completed MBBS from Madras Medical College in 1977, with an excellent academic record and received his M.S. ENT from Madras Medical College in 1981. From 1981 he is practicing as ENT Consultant till date. ​

His special interests are in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Cochlear Implantation for hearing-impaired children and Laser Surgery in ENT.

He has been an integral part of the MERF cochlear implantation programme since its inception in 1996.

He was also in the Surgical Team to do the "First Brainstem Implant" in South and Southeast Asia.

He had specialised international training for Cochlear Implantation in Melbourne and Sydney in 1996 and in Laser Surgery in ENT in the UK in 1999.

He has over 30 publications in major Journals and has participated in over 50 National & International Conferences.

He has conducted various South Zone conferences, All India AOI conferences, CIGICONs and TNAOI conferences and Numerouslive surgery workshops.

He has organised 79all-India Microsurgical Hands-On Temporal Bone Dissection Workshops to date at MERF and has co-authored the MERF temporal bone dissection manual.

He is a Doctor with deep social commitment and has participated in over 200 free camps all across Tamil Nadu to render service to people in rural areas.
