Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan is a Consultant ENT Surgeon and Head of the Department of Snoring & Sleep Disorders at Madras ENT Research Foundation (MERF), Chennai. He is also Visiting Professor of ENT at PSP Medical College Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai, and Visiting Faculty at MERF Institute of Speech & Hearing. With over two decades of experience in Otorhinolaryngology, he has established himself as one of India's leading experts in the diagnosis and surgical management of Snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), Sleep-Disordered Breathing, and Implantation Otology.

Education and Specialized Training

Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan underwent specialized training in Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders at the Euro Sleep Clinic, Norway, cochlear implantation and bone-anchored hearing devices in Austria, and participated in the Visiting Physician Program at the House Ear Institute, Los Angeles, USA. He has played a key role in advancing sleep surgery and multidisciplinary sleep medicine in India.

In 2024, he was awarded a PhD by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, for his research on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in children with Down Syndrome and Mucopolysaccharidosis, conducted under the guidance of Padma Shri Prof. Mohan Kameswaran. His doctoral work has contributed to improving the understanding and management of sleep-disordered breathing in children with complex syndromic conditions.

Leadership and Professional Contributions

Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan is the Founder Secretary of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA), Indian Academy of Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (IAOHNS), and Indian Society for Facial Trauma, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of Otorhinolaryngologists (ISFARO).

He served as the Regional Secretary for South & West Asia of the Young International Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (Yo-IFOS), the apex global body representing young ENT surgeons. He served as the President of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA) from 2022 to 2026 and has played a pivotal role in promoting sleep medicine, sleep surgery, and continuing medical education across India.

He serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the World Sleep Society and has contributed significantly to the promotion of sleep medicine education and research both nationally and internationally. 

Research and Academic Achievements

Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan has been actively involved in advancing the fields of Sleep Medicine, Sleep Surgery, and Implantation Otology through clinical practice, research, and education. He has authored over 30 scientific publications in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals and has presented numerous research papers at major conferences worldwide.

As a teacher and mentor, he has trained postgraduates, fellows, and International students in ENT, Sleep Surgery, and Implantation Otology, and has served as a thesis co-guide for DNB trainees. He serves as a Faculty Member for the prestigious International Master in Innovations and Excellence in Upper Airway Surgery for Sleep Breathing Disorders (SBD) conducted by the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and has been actively involved in several national and international fellowship and training programs.

Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan has delivered invited lectures and instructional courses at hundreds of national and international conferences and workshops and has been an invited faculty at premier scientific forums including IFOS, World Sleep Congress, AAO-HNS, International Surgical Sleep Society, APSCI, and Ibero-American Sleep Congress. He has conducted numerous live surgical demonstrations, cadaveric dissections, and hands-on training courses in sleep surgery and upper airway reconstruction across India and abroad. Through his contributions to research, education, and surgical training, he continues to play a significant role in shaping the future of Sleep Medicine and ENT surgery both nationally and internationally.

Global Academic and Surgical Footprint

Prof. P. Vijaya Krishnan has a truly global academic footprint and has travelled extensively across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East as an invited faculty member. He has delivered keynote lectures, moderated scientific sessions, conducted instructional courses, and participated as faculty in several prestigious international meetings including IFOS, World Sleep Congress, AAO-HNS, International Surgical Sleep Society, Ibero-American Sleep Congress, EROC, APSCI, and numerous sleep surgery and otology forums worldwide.

He is widely recognized for his expertise in sleep surgery and implantation otology, having demonstrated live surgeries, performed cadaveric dissections, and provided hands-on surgical training to ENT surgeons across the globe.
