Our OPD boasts a specialized Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department that offers a wide range of services to address issues related to the ears, nose, throat, and related structures. Outpatient ENT Procedures:
In addition to consultations, our OPD provides outpatient ENT procedures to address a variety of ear, nose, and throat issues. These procedures may include ear wax removal, nasal endoscopy, throat swabbing, laryngoscopy, and minor surgical interventions performed in our dedicated ENT procedure rooms. Audiology Department

Centre for Hearing Evaluation, Conservation & Restoration:
MERF is one of the leading centers for hearing restoration in the world. The clinic functions at different levels of assessment, treatment and management of disorders related hearing. The “state of art” infrastructure with cutting-edge technology symbiozed with customized protocols, uncompromised ethics, work culture and professional expertise makes our Institute unique and best in the world. Students and patients from all over the world visit MERF and for learning and treatment as our Institute is the Best Established implantation center across India and rest of the world.
Newborn Hearing Screening:
MERF has established Universal Newborn Hearing Screening programs in many hospitals in Chennai and other cities in India. MERF UNHS program is customized to suite the population, culture and the system to meet the standards in NHS.
Facilities for Diagnosis of Hearing Disorders:
Subjective Test:
Psycho acoustic test:- Pure Tone Audiometry ( BOA, Play Audiometry, VRA, Functional gain assessment).,
Objective Test:
Electrophysiological Test: ECochG, Acoustic ABR, Electrically Evoked ABR -Trans tympanic/Promontory stimulation, Intra Cochlear Electro-Cochleargraphy, Cortical Auditory Response)
Physiological Test: ( Wide band Tympanometry, OAE, Acoustic & Non-acoustic reflexometry)

Hearing Aid Fitting /Optimization:
In MERF, we assess the benefit of the hearing aid using both psycho acoustical, electrophysiological data. Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials (HEAR Lab) developed at National Acoustic Laboratory (NAL). MERF is the only institute which has HEAR Lab in India.

Community based Hearing Health Care:
MERF has a very active Community Medicine Department were at least 300 children and adults are screened, diagnosed and treated with all types ENT diseases and communication disorders. As the part of the visit they also do awareness program to the people in the village. As a result we have restored hearing for more than 1500 children living in villages, where there is no medical facilities available.
Speech and Language Pathology: Clinical Services
The Speech and Language clinic offers speech-language pathology services for all ages with communication difficulties. The clinic provides diagnostics and therapeutic services for these individuals. We are equipped with software to provide customized treatment to every patient. We offer individual and group speech and language therapy.

Voice care clinic:
The voice care clinic is dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of laryngeal and voice disorders and to improve its quality and care. The voice evaluation typically includes comprehensive perceptual and acoustic evaluation using (Computerized speech Lab, PRAAT, Dr. Speech). Treatment options are tailored to the individual patient.

Fluency enhancement clinic:
The fluency enhancement clinic provides services for fluency disorders such as stuttering, cluttering, neurogenic and psychogenic stuttering. These disorders are assessed and diagnosed using standardized test materials (SSI, SPI, OASES, CALMS rating scale, etc). Subsequent therapy protocols are framed based upon the client’s diagnosis.

Neuro clinic:
The neuro clinic provide dedicated services for assessment and management of congenital and acquired neurological disorders which includes cerebral palsy, childhood Apraxia of speech, adult language disorders, motor speech disorders and dysphagia. The services are provided with materials like Western Aphasia Battery, Frenchey Dysarthria Assessment, Manipal Manual of Cognitive Linguistic Assessment, Manipal Manual of Swallowing Assessment, Minimental State Examination and Quick Neurological Screening test.

Center for Auditory habilitation:
services are provided by skilled auditory habiltationist. The quality control of the center is monitored by experts from USA and Europe.

Training on how to take care of hearing aids and other amplification devices

MERF is the first center to establish satellite auditory habilitation center in India to cater to children across the state of Tamil Nadu. Satellite centers across Tamil Nadu are located in Coimbatore, Tiruchirapally, Madurai and Tirunelveli which also have experienced habilitationist’s who provide first hand habilitation service.
