Prof. Vijaya Krishnan P MBBS, DLO, DNB, MNAMS, PhD

Dr. P. Vijaya Krishnan, is a renowned ENT surgeon, academician, and thought leader in the field of Sleep Apnoea, Otology, and Cochlear Implantation, with over two decades of distinguished service in clinical practice, education, and research. He currently serves as Consultant ENT Surgeon and Head of the Department of Snoring & Sleep Apnoea at the Madras ENT Research Foundation (MERF), Chennai, and is a visiting faculty at the MERF Institute of Speech & Hearing.

He completed his MBBS from Tirunelveli Medical College, followed by DLO from Madurai Medical College, and DNB in Otorhinolaryngology at MERF from the National Board of Examinations. He was awarded MNAMS in 2012 and obtained his PhD in 2024, focusing on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS) in Syndromic Children, a rare and challenging area of pediatric sleep medicine.

Dr. Vijaya Krishnan has played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding and management of Sleep-Disordered Breathing in India. He has undergone specialized international training in Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders at Euro Sleep Clinic, Bergen (Norway), Navigation-Guided Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Coblation surgeries for airway and sleep apnoea, and Hearing Implantation techniques, including Bone Anchored Hearing Aids and Cochlear Implants at premier institutions in USA, Austria, and Norway.

He is a recognized mentor and trainer for Cochlear Implant Surgery across Tamil Nadu, guiding Implantation Otologist fellow trainees, ENT registrars, and candidates of the IASSA Certified Training Program (CTP) in Sleep Apnoea. His mentorship has helped standardize advanced surgical techniques and improve outcomes across multiple centers in India.

As an academic leader, Dr. Vijaya Krishnan has demonstrated live surgical procedures at numerous national and international conferences and cadaveric workshops, including advanced techniques in palatal surgery, hyoid advancement, tongue base surgery, and multilevel surgical approaches for OSAS. He is regularly invited to deliver keynote lectures, instructional courses, and panel discussions across the globe.

He has served as Organizing Secretary and Scientific Committee Chair for multiple major events including the AOICON, APSCI, IASSACON Conferences, and live surgical workshops on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. His ability to combine clinical acumen with academic insight has established him as a national resource person in both sleep medicine and implant otology.

Dr. Vijaya Krishnan holds leadership roles in several professional bodies. He is the Founder Secretary and current President of the Indian Association of Surgeons for Sleep Apnoea (IASSA), Founder Secretary of the Indian Academy of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (IAOHNS), and a Scientific Advisory Committee Member of the World Sleep Society—where he is the only Indian representative on the international panel.

A prolific academic, he has authored over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, contributed to international consensus guidelines, and serves as a reviewer and editorial board member for reputed journals including the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology and International Journal of Sleep Medicine. His publications span diverse areas such as cochlear implantation, vestibular dysfunction, pediatric OSAS, and advanced surgical techniques. He has recently authored a book titled The Enigma of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Multidisciplinary Handbook on OSAS.

His passion for raising awareness and promoting structured education in Sleep Medicine has led him to organize and participate in multiple public awareness campaigns, sleep health marathons, and academic collaborations. His work continues to impact clinical practices, policy-making, and surgical education both in India and internationally.

With a unique combination of clinical expertise, surgical innovation, and academic leadership, Dr. Vijaya Krishnan stands at the forefront of Sleep Surgery and Implant Otology in India, inspiring a new generation of ENT professionals.
